Motorcycle Camping Mt Morrow NC

We finally got the motorcycles running consistently and decided to take our first longer/overnight trip.  The original plan was to head up to Hanging Rock State Park and meet up with the Luczak’s for some early fall camping,  Unfortunately many others had the same idea and we were unable to find any campsites open at either Hanging Rock or Stone Mt.  We ended trying Mt.  Morrow State Park on the west side of the Uhwarrie National Forest as it was located pretty much exuidistant between Raleigh  and Asheville.  Mt Morrow was a large pleasant park along the Yadkin/PeeDee River.  Unfortunately the park experienced significant storm damage in June of 2013 and many of the hiking trails were still closed due to downed trees.  With fewer hiking options and beautiful weather we decided to rent some canoes and paddle the river for a while.  It was good to get on the water and see the leaves beginning to change colors.  Overall we had a great time and were glad to get the chance to spend time with family on relatively short notice.

While we did not get to really experience riding in the mountains we still had a blast riding the motorcycles.  I spent much of the ride on a 1975 Honda CB200T and definitely felt like I was in the mountains in fifth gear going up some of the hills.  Kate was on the 1973 CB350T and did great.  After one small hiccup on the 200 about 20 miles outside of Raleigh we had no more problems on our 250 mile ride.  It felt good to cover so much distance on tiny bike around 40 years old.  Already starting to try and figure out whether we should try the mountains or the beach on the trip.
