We took a break from the blog for awhile, so we are retroactively adding some previous travels. When choosing our first adventure with our daughter we wanted somewhere foreign, yet kid friendly. The architecture of Guadi made Barcelona a top choice. We enjoyed the architecture, food and culture of the Barcelona. The first glimpses of the Sagrada Familia were overwhelmingly amazing. The intricate and graceful designs both on the exterior and interior showed Gaudi’s nature inspirations. The other Guadi sites were beautiful, including Casa Mila (La Padrera) and Park Güell. Las Ramblas was a must do, though maybe one of our least favorites in the area. We did find some delicious food. We then flew to Mallorca to enjoy a few days along the rocky coastline of a quiet, coastal town. We arrived in Palma, a busy tourist destination. With a rental car secured, we made our way up the coast to the quiet, somewhat off the beaten path town of Banyalbufar, where we were going to stay in a 12th century convent turned into a hotel, Son Borguny. The drive was incredibly beautiful and our 9 month old was doing amazing. Once arriving in town, she began screaming. We knew we were close to the hotel and decided to keep going. We ran into a problem when the streets in front of the hotel were about 1 foot wider than our car and there was no place to turn around. With a screaming baby, we kept going hoping we would find a driveway. The street continued to get narrower. We finally saw someone who let us know we were on a hiking path (though the locals said otherwise). We managed to do a 300 point turn and get to the hotel, which was family owned. Everyone in Spain loved babies, and the owners here were no different. We enjoyed an amazing stay in a quiet town with beautiful drives to the surrounding areas. It was here that the employees talked to our daughter with every passing and once we are pretty sure she replied “Que pasa.” After a relaxing few days here, we flew back to Barcelona with a stop on a Mediterranean beach in Palma. We took one last walking tour of the El Born district and visited the Barcelona cathedral. For our last day, we took a train to Montserrat and rode a cable car to the Monastery. One of the highlights here was taking a funicular further up, then hiking some trails along some old hermitage sites. Back in Barcelona, we had one more amazing meal before heading back to the US.
