Belize and Caye Caulker. November 2014

Last post for our Thanksgiving 2014 trip to Central America.
After several days visiting sites throughout the interior of Guatemala we headed out to Belize to end our trip on the beach.  After what felt like a relatively brief bus ride we ended up at the coast in the capital of Belize City around lunch.  Here we boarded a boat and headed out to Caye Caulker.  On arrival we were greeted by atypically cool and rainy weather for Belize.  Unfortunately this weather stayed with us for 80% of our time on Caye Caulker.  Nonetheless the weather was warmer than that in North Carolina and we were still able to have lots of fun during our brief stay.

Throughout our visit we enjoyed trying some of the Caribbean food in Belize, especially fryjacks, and the surprisingly ubiquitous Cinnamon Rolls.  Much of our time was spent riding on the small island on bikes provided by our hotel.  During a brief break in the weather we snuck out to Shark Ray Alley and Hol Chan Marine Reserve.  This excursion was yet another highlight of our trip with our swimming with loggerhead turtles, nurse shark schools, stingrays, and impressive coral reefs.  Belize was a wonderful enough way to end our trip we are already thinking of what we want to do when return (scared Manatee tour for Kate most likely).
