In celebration of our third anniversary, we thought we would add our honeymoon pictures to the blog. With the gracious gift of airline miles by Andy’s Mom, we had the opportunity to travel anywhere in the world. Andy wanted Asia and I wanted an island, we ended up in Indonesia. We had some great stops along the way. The first was a day layover in Frankfurt. We had just enough time to take the subway to the heart of the city and walk around and have a quick bite. After Frankfurt, we had three days in Phuket, Thailand.
We originally planned on starting and finishing in Bangkok, but the news had been showing episodes of dangerous civil unrest throughout the city. Based on this we decided to switch the beginning of our trip to Phuket and keep our return through Bangkok. We stayed at Boomerang Village in Kata Beach, where we had a gorgeous room located in a villa on the side of a cliff with a bed decorated in flowers. Kata Beach is located a few miles from Phuket City. We sat down to rest after a long flight, only to wake up some 16 hours later in the middle of the night. Fully rested, we headed to the beach for some surfing, food (real pad thai!), and beautiful scenery of long-tailed boats along the shore. We rented a scooter in order to further explore southern Phuket. With wheels we visited Wat Chalong Buddhist Temple, the Big Buddha Statue (45 m tall on the top of a mountain), and had a nice meal with amazing views of the sea at night. Phuket was an excellent introduction to southeast Asia as it was quiet, peaceful, friendly and an amazing start to a once in a lifetime trip. It was also nice to see how far the island had island had come in the 5 years since the devastating tsunami in December of 2004.
